U.S. Women In Soy Travel To South Africa
August 14, 2008...Source: ASA Leader Letter...American Soybean Association (ASA) and World Soy Foundation (WSF) Board member Barb Overlie and United Soybean Board (USB) Director Vicki Coughlin participated on a panel called "Women in Soy Developments" at the 10th International Soy Foods Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa. Barb and Vicki talked about their role in soybean organizations in the United States to promote the soy industry and improve food and nutrition around the world.
Also on the USB-funded trip to Southern Africa are as follows: Sharon Covert, USB Director and farmer; Karen Fear, USB Director and farmer; Mary Lou Smith, USB Director and farmer; Laura Foell, USB Director and farmer; Vanessa Kummer, USB Director and farmer and Colby Sutter, U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) staff. Bill Wykes, WSF and USSEC Board member, and Jim Hershey, ASA’s World Soy Foundation Executive Director, also traveled with the group.
The U. S. Women in Soy Team is meeting with South African food processes, private voluntary organizations, faith based groups and government officials to explore linkages and opportunities for U.S. soy and nutrition programs. U.S. Department of Agriculture officials met with the group to give them the overview of opportunities in Southern Africa for U.S. soy.
